Missional Minute
With the re-opening of churches and the focus of a return to “normal” post-Covid, it is easy to get caught up in monitoring the attendance numbers, as people who were watching the church services online begin to come back to the church for in-person worship. But we know the number of the people in the pews is not the only measure of a healthy church. Our Diocesan Mission Action Plan cites five Vital Signs of a Healthy Church. They are: Authentic Worship, Formation, Fellowship, Evangelism, and Loving Service. Or, in other words, Thanksgiving, Transforming, Together, Telling, and Tending. All five are signs that a church is growing inward and outward. And none are based on numbers. Take a moment to ask: How is my parish doing on these five signs? Is there a particular area that we need to work on? Is there something we are particularly good at that should be celebrated? And, of course, offer all this to God in prayer. It is through His power that we can grow and serve Him. |

Job Posting - Full-Time RectorSt. Laurence, Calgary The Anglican Parish of St. Laurence, Calgary is seeking a full- time rector. St. Laurence, located in southwest Calgary, Alberta, is a spunky, open-minded Anglican community. We love to ask questions, experiment with new things and, through the Wisdom Centre, to contribute to the larger conversation about how to renew and revitalize Christian life in the 21st century. As a 60-year-old parish, we have never been reluctant to embrace new challenges and to bravely travel down “roads less taken.” We are seeking a spiritual leader to walk with us, side-by-side, into the future, always keeping Jesus’ steadfast instruction to “be not afraid” in our collective hearts. Would you like to join us on this journey? To obtain a parish profile and/or to apply, please contact: The Ven. Dr. Pilar Gateman, Diocesan Executive Officer. Deadline is June 24. |

Events at The Cathedral Church of the Redeemer, Calgary
Festival of Music within the Liturgy: June 18 to 26 Archbishop Greg writes: St. Clement of Alexandria in the second century taught that music participated in the divine by praising God and partaking in the harmonious order of which He was the composer. And St. Augustine in the fourth century is reputed to have said that the one who sings prays twice. In the Acts of the Apostles, Paul and Silas held captive in prison are singing hymns to God when their chains are miraculously loosed and the prison doors opened. In both Jewish and Christian tradition, music has had an integral part in giving voice to our worship and opening our hearts to the divine melody of God’s presence and love. It is with pleasure and delight that I commend to you The Diocesan Festival of Music within the Liturgy at the Cathedral Church of the Redeemer this coming week. I encourage you to join with us in this celebration of music and praise. The Cathedral Church of the Redeemer will host a Diocesan Festival of Music within the Liturgy from June 18 to 26 this year. There will be daily services with special music, featuring guest clergy, musicians, and singers from across the Diocese. Services will be offered in a variety of formats, including traditional Choral Evensong, and Sung Eucharist, while also branching out into other formats, including a Taizé service. Director of Music, Neil Cockburn writes: “The motto of the Cathedral has long been ‘A Place for the Soul in the Heart of the City’ and we aim to bring that to life this summer with daily worship, live music, and open doors. We hope that visitors and residents of the downtown area will hear our music as they walk by, come in for a warm welcome, and stay for a time of peace and reflection.” For a full schedule, follow the link here. Diocesan Choirs' Festival: Saturday, June 18 at 4:30 pm As part of our Festival of Music within the Liturgy at the Cathedral (June 18-26), we are hosting our first in-person Diocesan Choirs’ Festival since the start of the pandemic. Choirs and individual singers from across the Diocese are invited to participate in a celebratory service of Choral Evensong on Saturday June 18 at 4.30 pm. Further information is given on our website. |

Consumed is a three-year journey geared toward providing you with the foundation and tools for a spirituality of knowing God, learning and living Jesus, and leading others into just such a quest.
