July 2022 Report
Below is a summary of the work that the PWRDF has been doing in the past six months: Hunger Appeal: Through its membership in the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, PWRDF is participating in the Humanitarian Coalition appeal to end hunger. Empowering Women: In 2022, PWRDF is supporting partners in twenty countries around the world. PWRDF Wild Ride: This new fundraising initiative engages Canadians in support of PWRDF partners who serve refugees and displaced people. Join others across the country as we walk, cycle, roller blade, bake, read, knit, crochet, swim, kayak, canoe, dance and sing, or pretty much any activity. This initiative replaces the Ride for Refuge fundraiser. Support for Ukraine: Supporters have now contributed $1 million for our work and partnerships in Ukraine. COVID Response: PWRDF continues to support partners in five countries in sub Saharan Africa in support of effective COVID response and training of community health workers, and maintenance and strengthening of other health care resources. Solar Suitcase Update: The installation of 50 solar suitcases is underway in very rural, off-grid health centres as part of last year's Light for Every Birth program. Climate Action: Partners are taking climate action in their programs by planting trees, managing erosion and water, and caring for crops. Indigenous Programs: In 2022, we supported communities in northern Ontario and northern Manitoba responding to COVID, as well as supporting the KOR Language and Cultural Centre in Mohawk Territory near Montreal. There was support for elders in Winnipeg, and a Seed Sanctuary program with the Highland Waters Metis Council. In-Canada Emergencies: Coordinating with The Territory of the People, allocation of funds raised in 2021 to individuals and families impacted by fires and floods in Lytton, BC occurred . There was also support for flood victims in southern Manitoba in April. For more information on our work, please visit our Website. |

Phishing Scams Happening Again
Once again, there have been several phishing attempts reported to the Diocesan Office. If you receive a request from Archbishop Greg or one of our staff asking for your help or the purchase of gift cards, and you are suspicious, please do not respond and delete the email. Phishing emails may look extremely authentic. Here are some tips on how to protect your confidential personal information: · Do not click on links OR open attachments in emails or messages from people that you do not know. · Remember that the Archbishop or the staff would never ask you for assistance in this way. · Look out for spelling or grammatical errors. · Check the sender’s email address or the Reply email address. Is this address the same as you would usually see from this person or organization? · Be cautious with any unexpected messages. When in doubt, delete. These emails are not harmful to your computer, just annoying. |
