Your latest news from The Anglican Diocese of Calgary

Anglican Diocese of Calgary
Newsletter for 3 August 2022

Missional Minute

Even though many of our clergy are taking well-deserved holidays over the summer months, our churches are still open, and there are clergy and lay people who are stepping in to cover services and to share their gifts of time and ministry.  Rather than taking summer Sunday mornings off, we urge you to come to church to support these dedicated servants.  You may wish to explore another parish, try on a different service style, and stretch your faith routine a bit.

Wherever you decide to worship, know that God is there, ready to meet you, and the door is always open.

Diocesan Announcements

Clergy Movements:

We are pleased to have The Rev. Bryan Beveridge in the Diocese for the summer months.  He has been assisting with services in the Canmore area.

We also announce the departure of The Rev. Deacon Tom Hubschmid to The Diocese of Ottawa.  He has been offered a curacy with St. Thomas, Ottawa beginning September 1.  We wish him all the best as he continues to grow in his ministry while being able to complete his thesis for his Ph.D.

Ordinations:

Archbishop Greg is pleased to announce that, God willing, he will ordain to the Diaconate Daniel Joseph, interning currently at St. Leonard-on-the-Hill, Red Deer, and Christopher Wall, of St. Aldhelm, Vulcan.  Daniel will be a Transitional Deacon, while Christopher will be a Vocational Deacon.  The Service of Ordination will take place at The Cathedral Church of the Redeemer, Calgary, on Sunday, September 4, at 7:00 pm.  Please pray for Daniel and Christopher as they prepare for their new ministries.  Color for this Service will be Red.

Archbishop Greg's Activities and Events

Archbishop Greg continues to be away in the UK for the 2022 Lambeth Conference followed by some personal holiday time.  Please keep him and Vicki in your prayers for safe travels and time spent in relaxation and refreshment.

Phishing Scams Happening Again

Once again, there have been several phishing attempts reported to the Diocesan Office.  If you receive a request from Archbishop Greg, a clergy person or one of our staff asking for your help or the purchase of gift cards, and you are suspicious, please do not respond and delete the email.

Phishing emails may look extremely authentic. Here are some tips on how to protect your confidential personal information:

·         Do not click on links OR open attachments in emails or messages from people that you do not know.

·         Remember that the Archbishop or the staff would never ask you for assistance in this way.

·         Look out for spelling or grammatical errors.

·         Check the sender’s email address or the Reply email address. Is this address the same as you would usually see from this person or organization?

·         Be cautious with any unexpected messages. When in doubt, delete.

These emails are not harmful to your computer, just annoying.

We'd Like to Hear from You

We are interested in what is happening in your parish and would love to highlight those events and news in our newsfeed.

We look forward to your contributions - feel free to forward your event announcements, your parish news, your stories.  Send in your details and pictures to ctubman@calgary.anglican.ca.

Prayer Requests

Please remember in your prayers:

- the clergy and parishioners of our Diocese over the summer months - for safe travels,  and refreshment and rest;

- those who are sick, suffering, fearful or in need, remembering those suffering from COVID-19 and their caregivers, those feeling isolated and those who are vulnerable;

- for peace within our country, and in the world, remembering the country of Ukraine, and we pray for areas of unrest and riots, asking for wise discernment in our leaders;

- for Monica, Howard, Terry, Janet, Victoria, Rick and Deb, Donna, Sharon, Don and Adrian;

- for those who have died and those who mourn;

- the victims of violence and natural disasters;

- our Indigenous brothers and sisters, especially remembering their hurt and grief at this time;

- refugees, remembering those fleeing the Taliban regime, and those fleeing war in the Ukraine.

Request a prayer:

Send prayer requests to ctubman@calgary.anglican.ca to let us know how we can pray for you.  We will only use first names which will be removed after two or three weeks.  We will also pray for you during our regular Chapel services each week.  Please ensure that you have permission from those whose names you are submitting for prayer, and that they understand their name will be made public to all who subscribe to the Newsletter.
