Missional Minute

One of the many seminars offered at the Lambeth Conference last month was one on Intentional Discipleship.  It focused on how important it is to build intentional mentoring discipleship.  Such mentoring encourages people to hear the Good News, to live into their baptismal covenant, to recognize Christ in their lives, and to commit to a life belonging to the Church.

We are each called to a particular place -- within our families, our workplaces, our community and of course, within our parishes -- to live out our mission to others.  Now more than ever, we are called to be part of the renewal of the Church.

Jesus stands ready to shape our lives, to mold us as His disciples, but He won't force us.  We have to make the conscious decision to step out in faith.  Disciples are people who know who Jesus is, who hear what Jesus is speaking to them, and who know how they are going to respond.

May we all seek a renewal of our call to bring the light of Christ to "the last, the lost and the least."

PWRDF Wild Ride Fundraiser

PWRDF Wild Ride Fundraiser

PWRDF Wild Ride: This new fundraising initiative engages Canadians in support of PWRDF partners who serve refugees and displaced people.  Join others across the country as we walk, cycle, roller blade, bake, read, knit, crochet, swim, kayak, canoe, dance and sing, or pretty much any activity.  This initiative replaces the Ride for Refuge fundraiser.

A PWRDF parish representative at St. Paul, Thunder Bay organized a jigsaw puzzle-a-thon and raised $1,090.  A representative in the Diocese of the Yukon is crocheting 10 baby blankets with the hopes of raising over $2,800.  And Primate Linda Nicholls is reprising her popular Hymn Sing on Facebook in September, with donations made when requesting a hymn.

Get creative, by yourself or with a "team."  To sign up for the Wild Ride today, go to the PWRDF website.

Phishing Scams Happening Again

Once again, there have been several phishing attempts reported to the Diocesan Office.  If you receive a request from Archbishop Greg, a clergy person or one of our staff asking for your help or the purchase of gift cards, and you are suspicious, please do not respond and delete the email.

Phishing emails may look extremely authentic. Here are some tips on how to protect your confidential personal information:

·         Do not click on links OR open attachments in emails or messages from people that you do not know.

·         Remember that the Archbishop or the staff would never ask you for assistance in this way.

·         Look out for spelling or grammatical errors.

·         Check the sender’s email address or the Reply email address. Is this address the same as you would usually see from this person or organization?

·         Be cautious with any unexpected messages. When in doubt, delete.

These emails are not harmful to your computer, just annoying.

We'd Like to Hear from You

We are interested in what is happening in your parish and would love to highlight those events and news in our newsfeed.

We look forward to your contributions - feel free to forward your event announcements, your parish news, your stories.  Send in your details and pictures to ctubman@calgary.anglican.ca.
