Missional Minute
Towards the end of the Morning Eucharist service in the Book of Alternative Services, there is the option to say the Doxology, found on page 214: "Glory to God, whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine. Glory to God from generation to generation,in the Church and in Christ Jesus, for ever and ever. Amen" This is adapted from Paul's letter to the Ephesians, Chapter 3, verses 20 and 21: "Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen." I have said this passage countless times. I have focussed on the 'Glory to God' part in worship. I have focussed on the 'infinitely more' phrase, as being huge and wondrous and unlimited, as I consider all the possible ways that God can act, beyond my imagination (and I have a big imagination!). But yesterday, I paused over the phrase, 'working in us.' Yes, God is capable of doing all things. However, it is His power within us that sees mission and the growing of God's kingdom happen. We are His hands and feet. We are His messengers. We are called to act, always through the Spirit and by the Spirit. Through prayer, through study of scripture to hear His voice, and through intentional action in His name, we can do the work that God has appointed us to do. May His power working in us prompt us to step out in faith to serve our Lord. |

Knit in Public EventSaturday, June 17 - 10:00 am to 1:00 pm To celebrate "Worldwide Knit in Public Day" (who knew there was such a thing?!?), knitters at Holy Cross, Calgary are invited to bring a knitting project, a lawn chair, a hat and a water bottle, and join us in front of the main doors of the church to work on prayer shawls or a personal project. If you wish to crochet or do hand work, you are welcome, too. This activity will not only give knitters an opportunity to work on something wonderful and build community, but also offer outreach to anyone passing by as we highlight our Prayer Shawl ministry. We also challenge other parishes to hold their own "Knit In Public" events and we’d love to see pictures! For more information about this project, please contact Carol Tubman (ctubman@shaw.ca) or tel: (403) 277-9104. If the weather is inclement, the event will be held inside. |

We ask for wise discernment in our leaders; - for those affected by the wildfires burning in this province, causing anxiety and insecurity, for those who have lost possessions or been displaced, and for those who are working to bring these fires under control; - for those who are sick, suffering, isolated or in need. We ask for prayers for Monica, Howard, Terry, Janet, Victoria and Lily, Donna, Barbara and Elizabeth, Cathy, Vic, Fergus, John and family, and Dre; - for those who have died and those who mourn; - for the poor, the homeless, and the needy in our communities; - our Indigenous brothers and sisters, and their leaders in our diocese and country; - refugees, remembering those fleeing regimes around the world, and those fleeing war in the Ukraine. Request a prayer: Send prayer requests to ctubman@calgary.anglican.ca to let us know how we can pray for you. We will only use first names which will be removed after two or three weeks.
