Missional Minuteby Archbishop Greg Kerr-Wilson I’m appreciating today the encouragement about the "Good Shepherd" spoken about in Psalm 23, “He leads me beside still waters; He restores my soul." In the midst of our current pandemic, this scripture raises these questions for me: —What wells of refreshing water are we going to draw from in this season? —What sources of well-being will we be drawing from? —What will nourish our selves, our families, our communities, and our imaginations? —What will nurture and help us to grow as people and as Christians? Let us allow those things to change us profoundly, allowing us to live a life of Godly sanity despite the madness of our world. Let the “Good Shepherd” lead us to a place where our soul can be restored. Let us be led to the place in which we grow into the depths of what God is calling us to be as human beings and what God created us for in the first place. Let us be reminded of what it is that we're being called into as God's new and good creation, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. I pray that as we begin to slowly emerge from this time of social and physical distancing, that we will not simply allow ourselves to return back to normal, but instead will be fed and led by the living water that Jesus gives by the Holy Spirit to become ever more truly the people that God intends us to be. Education for MinistryTwo Zoom Open Houses Looking for a way to deepen your understanding of the Christian faith and enhance the connection between what you believe and how you live your daily life? The Education for Ministry (EfM) program combines independent study and weekly small group discussions to provide a basic grounding in theology to Christian laypeople. The EfM curriculum explores the content and origins of Scripture, follows Church history from its earliest days, and examines issues in Christian theology. Group members engage in individual and group theological reflection throughout their studies to bring our different life experiences and perspectives into conversation with our faith, helping to discern God’s call to each of us. EfM is an extension program of an Episcopal theological school; there is a lot to read (including the whole Bible) but there are no exams. Students commit to one year at a time and those completing all four years of the program receive a certificate of completion. There are two groups currently meeting in Calgary. Since March, they have been meeting using Zoom. Come Fall, the hope is to return to mainly face-to-face meetings, knowing Zoom will work if needed. In preparation for next year’s courses which will run from September 2020 to May/June 2021, two Zoom Open Houses have been planned. For a Zoom invitation to the Daytime Open House (Thursday, May 21 at 1:00 pm), please contact Carol Tubman at ctubman@shaw.ca and for a Zoom invitation to the Evening Open House (tbd), please contact Jennifer Solem at efmststephens@shaw.ca. |

CLAY 2020 postponed until 2021now August 19 - 22, 2021 Over the past month, members of the executive for the 2020 CLAY Gathering National Planning Committee from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC) and the Anglican Church of Canada (ACC) have been monitoring updates as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to escalate. After much discernment, the planning team shares that CLAY, originally scheduled for August 20-23, 2020, will be postponed to August 19-22, 2021. The event will still be held at the Southern Alberta Institute for Technology (SAIT) in Calgary, Alberta. The CLAY Executive expresses its gratitude for the National Planning Committee, Production Team, and local volunteers who have been meeting and working over these past 18 months to create an event that is educational, faith-filled and inspiring for our young people. When we picked the theme of EnRoute, we knew we were going on a journey. Journeys often involve twists and turns. We will continue on this path and are dedicated to bringing this wonderful event to life in 2021. Just like on the Road to Emmaus, we know that Jesus walks with us on this journey. For those who have already registered for CLAY 2020, we will transfer your registration to CLAY 2021. For those unable to attend the new date, registration fees will be fully refunded. If you are seeking a refund please contact Heidi, CLAY Registrar, at registrar@claygathering.ca before December 31, 2020. Participants who have registered or were planning on registering for CLAY 2020 who will exceed the age limit for the event in 2021 will be allowed to participate because of these special circumstances. For clarification on this, please contact Heidi at registrar@claygathering.ca We plan on opening registration again in January 2021. Home Team Leaders can make substitutions to their Home Team free of charge once registration re-opens. CLAY will continue being a biennial event, and therefore, the next CLAY will be planned for the summer of 2023. Should you have any questions, please contact: Sheilagh McGlynn, ACC staff person at smcglynn@national.anglican.ca or Gretchen Peterson, ELCIC staff person gpeterson@elcic.ca |
