A Missional Minuteby Archdeacon Pilar Gateman How do we think of Mission in a time when we are kept at a distance? How do we share the love of Christ and his transforming power in our lives with those who, during this time, may be feeling the need for some peace and hope right about now? One of the ways is the Diocesan Spiritual Care Phone Line. It has a new number (see below) and we hope that people both inside the Diocese and especially outside will take advantage of the listening ear that will greet them on the other side of the line. Who do you know that could use a listening ear? Perhaps encourage them to dial in. Those on the prayer line are eager to share the peace they know with your friends. |
The time that is given us…A message from Archbishop Greg Kerr-Wilson There's an old saying “You are what you eat”. In some traditions of the Christian church, this past Sunday commemorated “The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ,” also known as “Corpus Christi.” In this time of the COVID pandemic, we have not had access to the consecrated sacraments of the Eucharist table. But I do believe that as a result of the prayerful yearning of our hearts for God’s grace, and through the surrender and transformation of our lives, that God feeds us in ways that we cannot see or understand and continues that process to receive the body of Christ that nourishes our souls. I pray that in the ongoing disrupted times in which we live, our hearts will continue to be open, to be receiving the body of Christ, and to feed on him in our hearts by faith, as the old wisdom says from our prayer book; that we will, indeed, become what we eat. Insurance Information Regarding Church Buildingsfrom Acting Director of Finance Marcus Herrel Recently the Diocese received the following information produced by our insurance provider, that provides you with some guidance in managing vacant and idle buildings which you may find of value. If you have any additional concerns, please feel free to contact the Synod Office. Premises that are temporarily closed solely due to COVID-19: To ensure customers are not unduly penalized for temporary closures solely due to the restrictions imposed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we will not exclude damage to buildings and contents at locations which have become silent. In addition, for locations which have been temporarily closed following the restrictions associated with COVID-19 there will be: • no reduction in the level of policy cover • no increase in deductibles. We will not mandate that premises be inspected as a policy condition because this could potentially go against the current advice of the authority having jurisdiction. However, we will recommend that customers exercise the appropriate due diligence, which includes the expectation of a premises inspection if safe to do. |

Education for MinistryOpen House and Graduation Update Looking for a way to deepen your understanding of the Christian faith and enhance the connection between what you believe and how you live your daily life? The Education for Ministry (EfM) program combines independent study and weekly small group discussions to provide a basic grounding in theology to Christian laypeople. The EfM curriculum explores the content and origins of Scripture, follows Church history from its earliest days, and examines issues in Christian theology. Group members engage in individual and group theological reflection throughout their studies to bring our different life experiences and perspectives into conversation with our faith, helping to discern God’s call to each of us. EfM is an extension program of an Episcopal theological school; there is a lot to read (including the whole Bible) but there are no exams. Students commit to one year at a time and those completing all four years of the program receive a certificate of completion. Next year’s courses will run from September 2020 to May/June 2021, and registration is currently underway. Please contact ctubman@calgary.anglican.ca for information. |
