Registered Charity Information Return for 2023Deadline for submission for most parishes is June 30, 2024 Parishes in the Diocese are reminded that, under the Income Tax Act, every registered charity (parish) must file a Registered Charity Information Return each year, and it must be filed no later than six months after the end of the charity's fiscal period. For example, for a charity with a fiscal period ending on December 31, the return is due by June 30. Failure to submit a Registered Charity Return may result in your Parish losing its Registered Charity status, leaving your parish unable to issue tax receipts or apply for GST rebates for the period that it is without a Registered Charity number. Parishes with a fiscal year ending on or before December 30, 2023 need to use the T3010-version 23 form. Parishes with a fiscal year ending on or after December 31, 2023, need to use the T3010-version 24 form. If the incorrect version of the form is used, Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will reject it and you will need to resubmit it using the correct form. The process of re-applying for Charitable status is long and arduous, so please use the correct form and submit your Registered Charity Information Return on time. |

St. Leonard's RetreatJune 7 to 9 Please join us at King's Fold Retreat & Renewal Centre for a time of spiritual reflection and retreat led by The Rev. Chris Roth. From time to time Christians are called to take time away from their regular lives in order to devote time to their own spiritual growth. Jesus modeled this by spending time on his own in the wilderness, and also withdrawing from the busyness and demands of the crowds to spend time in prayer.
During retreat we make time for prayer and reflection. There will be times when we gather for prayer in the morning and in the evening. We will eat meals together, and we will gather for times of reflection and teaching on the spiritual life. There will also be time for you to pray and reflect on your own. This retreat is in a beautiful place and there will be time to sit by a fire, or walk in creation.
More information and how to register can be found at the St. Leonard's Anglican Church Facebook page. |
Worldwide Knit in Public Day - Saturday, June 8Holy Cross, Calgary To celebrate "Worldwide Knit in Public Day", knitters are invited to bring a knitting project, a lawn chair, a hat and a water bottle, and join us in front of the main doors of the church to work on prayer shawls or a personal project. If you wish to crochet or do hand work, you are welcome, too. This activity will not only give knitters an opportunity to work on something wonderful and build community, but also offer outreach to anyone passing by as we highlight our Prayer Shawl ministry. We also challenge other parishes to hold their own "Knit In Public" events and we’d love to see pictures! For more information about this project, please contact Rev. Carol Tubman or tel: (403) 630-9104. If the weather is inclement, the event will be held inside. |

Prayers for the Wildfire Situation in our Province
With smoke covering our province and reports of community evacuations, we are well aware of the danger and destruction of the wildfires occuring throughout Alberta. We ask for prayers for the more northerly parishes of our Diocese, especially Church of the Epiphany, Rimbey and Holy Trinity, Rocky Mountain House. We also lift up the parishes within The Diocese of Edmonton and The Diocese of Athabasca, as they endure these difficult situations within their boundaries. Lord God, where there is anxiety and insecurity, bring your peace and comfort. Where there is physical destruction, send your strength. Where there is evacuation and displacement, send clarity and organization. We thank you for providing trained firefighters, skilled caregivers, and loving charities to provide hope and support to those in need. Send your rain upon this land. We ask all this in your powerful name. Amen. |

Phishing Scams Happening Again
Once again, there have been several phishing attempts reported to the Diocesan Office. If you receive a request from Archbishop Greg, a clergy person or one of our staff asking for your help or the purchase of gift cards, and you are suspicious, please do not respond and delete the email. Phishing emails may look extremely authentic. Here are some tips on how to protect your confidential personal information: · Do not click on links OR open attachments in emails or messages from people that you do not know. · Remember that the Archbishop or the staff would never ask you for assistance in this way. · Look out for spelling or grammatical errors. · Check the sender’s email address or the Reply email address. Is this address the same as you would usually see from this person or organization? · Be cautious with any unexpected messages. When in doubt, delete. These emails are not harmful to your computer, just annoying. |
