Parish Members of Diocesan Synod, both Clergy and Lay, may be called upon to put their name forward for the following nominations:

Provincial Synod Delegate: We may send three Clergy and three Lay Persons - one of whom is a youth (a person between the ages of 16 and 25 inclusive as of the first day of May of the year of the regular session of the Synod for which the delegate is chosen.)

General Synod Delegate: We may send three Clergy (apart from the Archbishop), three Lay Persons and one Youth. 

Diocesan Council: From each of our five Deaneries, we elect one Clergy and one Lay Person.  We also may elect one youth.

If you are nominated or wish to stand for these elections, please notify The Rev. Kersi Bird.  We will need a biography to be shared in the Convening Circular, submitted prior to the middle of August.  Nominees are invited to submit a paragraph of no more than 60 words outlining their experience in the Church, and intention to serve as a representative.  Biographies are to be sent to the Chair of the Nominating Committee, The Rev. Kersi Bird.

Members of Synod are invited to submit notices of motions to Synod, in care of the Diocese Office. Notices should be submitted as early as possible but must be received by September 9, 2026.

Ministry leaders are asked to write up a report of their committee or ministry work which will be included in the Convening Circular and must be submitted to the Synod Office by August 20, 2026. Please submit reports electronically to the Diocese Office. Written reports will be received as a single motion at Synod.

Holy Nativity, Calgary is seeking an incumbent for our parish who will offer strong spiritual leadership.  He or she must have an outgoing personality, the ability to guide our congregation in the deepening of our relationship with God through Jesus Christ, be a sympathetic counsellor to people in times of distress, and welcome people of all backgrounds and races through our doors.

This congregation has a strong sense of community and a readiness to lead and undertake activities that make Holy Nativity a welcoming place to worship.  Our hope is that our future incumbent will continue to foster these aspects through developing and working with congregational teams that will work together to fulfill parish responsibilities and outreach missions.

St. James is seeking a full time Children's Pastor

The Children’s Pastor oversees and coordinates ministries for children from birth through Grade 6.

Children’s ministry is a vital part of life at St. James that seeks to build strong spiritual foundations for children and to strengthen relationships among families and the wider congregation as we follow Jesus together.

Interested applicants must have post-secondary education or equivalent experience; theological education is an asset.  As well, applicants must have a minimum of 2-4 years of experience working with children, preferably in a church or ministry setting.

This is a full-time position offering a competitive annual salary.  Evening and weekend work will be required based on parish programming and events.

St. Cuthbert & St. George in Sundre is hosting an outdoor service, with Archbishop Greg presiding.  All are welcome to attend.

Sunday, August 16 at 11:00 am, we will gather at the Greenwood Campground Gazebo in Sundre for a Holy Communion Service, followed by a BBQ.  We will supply the burgers, buns, fixings, and beverages; we ask you to bring salads and desserts.

The Anglican expression of Christianity is rooted in the rich and unique position it has in the history of the Church and in broader Christian experience.  This course will give students the opportunity to explore the history of Anglican origins and the unique character of Anglicanism.  In particular, this course will cover the Anglican understanding of unity and diversity, the spirituality of Anglican structures and governance, the orders of ministry (Lay, Bishop, Priest, Deacon), the centrality of liturgy ("Common Prayer") and a brief overview of the sacraments.

Six Classes: Tuesdays, September 22 to October 27, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

We have designed this course to be most beneficial to you if a small group comes from your parish. We encourage you to attend with some friends! 

The Ministry Development team offers time for lay ministers from around the diocese (new and locally ordained too!)  to gather each week to discuss and reflect upon the readings for the week in preparation for preaching. Academic resources (commentaries, etc) will be made available for participants, and it will be a great opportunity to share ideas and resources for lay ministers who are preaching in their local services.  

Time: Tuesdays from 1:00 to 3:00 pm

The Ministry Development team offers time for lay ministers from around the diocese to gather once a month for discussion and conversation around the opportunities, challenges and needs of lay ministry. It is also a great opportunity to create connections and fellowship with other lay ministers in the diocese. 

Each month, we will be producing a podcast with a different guest and topic for discussion. The Round Table will be held on the fourth Thursday of the month on Zoom in the afternoons, where the podcast and any other issues are on the table for discussion!

Each summer, the parish family of St. Augustine's Anglican Church in Ogden eagerly looks forward to one of its most cherished traditions, our annual Church Camping Weekend. This year's gathering, from July 10–12, 2026, brought parishioners together at the beautiful River Cove Group Camp in Bragg Creek.

More than simply a camping trip, the weekend was a joyful celebration of faith, family, friendship, and the beauty of God's creation. From Friday afternoon through Sunday, parishioners of all ages embraced a time of rest, recreation, worship, and meaningful fellowship in the great outdoors.

St. Augustine's Parish was deeply honoured to welcome Rev. Charmaine Evans of the Anglican Diocese of Calgary, who graciously celebrated the Holy Eucharist for the camping community. Her presence and ministry were a true blessing, reminding everyone that the Church is not confined within the walls of a building but flourishes wherever God's people gather in faith and love.

Across Canada, Indigenous communities are working to revitalize their languages and reclaim them for Christian worship—and with them, the opportunity to encounter God’s Word in the language of their hearts. In Southern Alberta, our Diocese of Calgary is working with Wycliffe Bible Translators of Canada and partnering with our Blackfoot-speaking churches and community leaders of the Siksika, Kainai, and Piikani Nations to translate the New Testament into the Blackfoot language.

For many Indigenous Elders and young people, this project represents both cultural renewal and a deeper connection to Christ.  This translation project is part of a hopeful journey of redemption, enabling Blackfoot communities to encounter God's Word in the language He entrusted to them. Your support and prayers will help equip local translators, advance the translation process, and ensure future generations can hear and read Scripture in Blackfoot.

Please join us in praying for this important work and consider making a gift to help bring God’s Word to the Blackfoot people.  During this summer there is a matching grant gift that will match any donations received toward this work.  $500 becomes $1000 - $750 becomes $1500.  Your support will go twice as far!

The University of Lethbridge Ecumenical Campus Ministry (ECM) has wonderful programs to create friendship and community for the students.  Offering a place to receive Smiles and Snacks, being there to listen and maybe teach a new craft - this Ministry is doing God's work in this place, and continues to do so after 30 years.

Former diocesan priest, The Very Rev. Dr. Kyle Norman will be offering "Becoming the Beloved: Henri Nouwen and Christian Identity"  during Week 3 (August 10 to 14).  More information can be found on the Website.

It is with sadness that we announce the death of The Ven. David Ellis, at the age of 97, on July 31.

David was ordained in the Diocese of Ottawa, and spent the early years of his ministry in the Dioceses of the Arctic, Ottawa, Athabasca and Niagara, before coming to the Diocese of Calgary in 1973.  He was priest at St. Peter, Okotoks; St. Paul, Midnapore; and St. George-in-the-Pines, Banff.  He moved to the Diocese of Cariboo and served at St. Michael & All Angels, Prince George for twelve years.  David then returned to the Diocese of Calgary, and served at Christ Church, Calgary, before becoming Honorary Assistant at St. George, Banff in 1997.  In 1998, he was Archdeacon of Bow Valley.

The funeral service will be held at St. George-in-the-Pines, Banff on Thursday, August 6 beginning at 2:00 pm. 

Please pray for his family and friends.  May David rest in peace and rise in Glory.

- for our Indigenous brothers and sisters, and their leaders in our diocese and country; 

- for refugees, remembering those fleeing regimes around the world.
