I struggle sometimes when I think of being Missional.  To me, Missional means sharing the Good News...with words.  However, I have come to realize that sharing the Good News doesn't always require you to use words.  It can be a hand on a shoulder, or a hug.  It can be listening.  It can be an action.  Any number of gestures can be meaningful and be just what that someone needs at that particular moment.

Remember the popular movement a number of years ago, WWJD?  What Would Jesus Do?  What if we asked, "What would Jesus say or do?" in response to the conversations, responses and reactions that take place in our ordinary, sometimes mundane, lives?

Jesus had conversations, responses and reactions to many situations similar to what we might have today.  The following is classic Jesus-shaped ministry:

Jesus asked questions.

Jesus listened to people's stories.

Jesus allowed people to tell him what was happening in their lives.

And then he often helped them take the next step.

Members of Synod are invited to submit notices of motions to Synod, in care of the Diocese Office. Notices should be submitted as early as possible but must be received by September 9, 2026.

The Convening Circular for this year's Synod was sent to Licensed Clergy and Elected Lay Synod Members on August 27.  This contains the Synod agenda, forms for Fee Payment and Certificate of Election, Motions from Diocesan Council, ministry reports and Diocesan information.  Fee Payments are due September 15. 

Elected Lay Members must have their Certificates of Election signed by their parish priest and bring this form with them to Synod in order to register.

In preparation for our Diocesan Synod, the Synod Steering Committee has chosen a theme of “Living in Hope.”

We wish to show a video presentation on this theme during our time together over the two days.

The Parish of St. Paul, Dinka Congregation, is officially announcing their new home.  As of September 1, St. Paul Dinka will be worshipping at Church of the Holy Nativity Anglican Church, Calgary.  Their services will be on Sunday afternoon, beginning at 2:00 pm and going until 6:00 pm.

St. James is seeking a full time Children's Pastor

The Children’s Pastor oversees and coordinates ministries for children from birth through Grade 6.

Children’s ministry is a vital part of life at St. James that seeks to build strong spiritual foundations for children and to strengthen relationships among families and the wider congregation as we follow Jesus together.

Interested applicants must have post-secondary education or equivalent experience; theological education is an asset.  As well, applicants must have a minimum of 2-4 years of experience working with children, preferably in a church or ministry setting.

This is a full-time position offering a competitive annual salary.  Evening and weekend work will be required based on parish programming and events.

St. Barnabas Anglican Church is seeking a Children’s Ministry Coordinator / Lead Teacher to provide consistent leadership for our growing Sunday School environment.

St. Barnabas is a broad, multigenerational and multicultural Anglican parish located in the Hillhurst area of northwest Calgary.   We are seeking someone who will help children know that they are valued members of the church community, support their growth in faith, and help build meaningful connections between Sunday School and the worshipping life of the parish.

At present, Sunday School primarily operates in a one-room, mixed-age environment. The successful candidate will lead Sunday School each week while working with parish volunteers and clergy to develop a sustainable ministry that can adapt and expand as the number and ages of participating children grow.

This part-time role, averaging 5–7 hours per week, will involve the planning and leading of engaging, age-appropriate Sunday School lessons each Sunday, adapting lectionary-based resources for a mixed-age group, the coordination of volunteers and communication with families, and connecting children’s learning with Scripture, the liturgical year, and worship.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working with children, building warm relationships, communicates well, and is comfortable within the Anglican tradition. Experience in children’s ministry, education, Christian formation, or related fields is an asset, but formal ministry training is not required.

St. Andrew Anglican Church in northwest Calgary is looking for Sunday School and Youth teachers, starting in September or October, 2026.  

Our Sunday School is growing!  St. Andrew's parish is seeking a Sunday School teacher to design and implement a curriculum based on each Sunday's readings from the Revised Common Lectionary.  Currently, we have about 17 students, ages 5 to 16.  

Time commitment would be about two hours preparation time and 45 minutes teaching during the 10:30 am service each Sunday.  Sound Biblical knowledge, a passion for developing disciples and teaching experience would be an asset.  We pray that, God willing, this will eventually become a youth leadership position in our parish.

The Anglican expression of Christianity is rooted in the rich and unique position it has in the history of the Church and in broader Christian experience.  This course will give students the opportunity to explore the history of Anglican origins and the unique character of Anglicanism.  In particular, this course will cover the Anglican understanding of unity and diversity, the spirituality of Anglican structures and governance, the orders of ministry (Lay, Bishop, Priest, Deacon), the centrality of liturgy ("Common Prayer") and a brief overview of the sacraments.

The Ministry Development team offers time for lay ministers from around the diocese (new and locally ordained too!)  to gather each week to discuss and reflect upon the readings for the week in preparation for preaching. Academic resources (commentaries, etc) will be made available for participants, and it will be a great opportunity to share ideas and resources for lay ministers who are preaching in their local services.

Anglican Renewal Ministries is dedicated to bringing the life and power of the Holy Spirit to all Christians.  We give thanks to God that ARM has been serving the Anglican Church of Canada for over 40 years!  In addition to workshops on the person and gifts of the Holy Spirit, we also offer a quarterly magazine called “Taste and See…" with articles to uplift and encourage you in your walk with Christ.   We hope this magazine will be a source of encouragement to all.  Sample articles and a free copy of the magazine are available on our website. 

It is not too soon to begin thinking about creating shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child.  This program demonstrates God's love in a tangible way to children in need around the world.  Through this project, Samaritan's Purse partners with the local churches worldwide to share the Good News of Jesus Christ and make disciples of the nations.

You can learn more about the ministry of Operation Christmas Child as a whole, including ways to participate, by visiting the Samaritan's Purse website.

An upcoming Project Leader Workshop will take place on Tuesday, October 6 from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the Samaritan's Purse Headquarters (20 Hopewell Way NE, Calgary) so that anybody from your church who is interested to know more about the ministry of Operation Christmas Child can come.

National Collection Week for the shoeboxes will be November 16 - 22.
