Retired Bishop Sidney Black was elected and consecrated in 2017 to be the Indigenous Bishop of Treaty 7 territory, within the Diocese of Calgary. Bishop Sidney works in partnership with Archbishop Greg to provide leadership and pastoral oversight in the Diocese, with particular focus on our Indigenous peoples and congregations. He is a member of the Blackfoot Confederacy from Siksika First Nation and has served in ministry with Indigenous peoples for many years, including leadership roles at the national level of our Church. Bishop Sidney’s ministry gives expression to ongoing work on a new movement in our church as Indigenous Anglicans seek to create a self-determining church within the Anglican Church of Canada.

We bid Bishop Sidney a fond farewell as he steps down from his position as Bishop of Treaty 7 territory the summer of 2019. We hope to continue a long and valuable friendship with him. We are so grateful as a Diocese to have had Sidney in this role.
